BBC Radio 1 Essential mix 2010
Looking back. Integrity.
BBC Radio 1 Essential mix 2010
Its that time of year when we look back over the past year, but honestly I think we’re all jaded from the world pandemic thats consumed our lives for the past 20 months and want to avoid it, thankfully Youtube snapped me out of this recommending I listen to my BBC Radio 1 Essential mix from 2010 and I’m so happy that I did as it had me gleaming with pride as this is a snapshot of my musical career, 12 years later I’ve still kept my musical ethos, vision and importantly integrity in tact so that you get an honest iinsight into myself as a DJ/artist. I haven’t jumped from one musical fad to another, no matter whats going on around me, even if the current scene I was aligned with wasn’t so popular, I stuck with it investing back to help build the foundation whilst playing my part to help this niche market evolve and grow and encouraging and supporting others around me.
From the outside looking in you only see the DJ performing in front of you, but since day one of my career I’ve always been fully active in the background throwing raves in the late 80’s pushing what was a brand new electronic dance scene to the underground world, still today I’m constantly working closely with promoters/industry helping/advising them that have resulted in many new concepts, all with the same ethos that has been with me, to push new musical scenes in the specialist/underground worlds that I’m comfortably aligned with.
Pete Tong calls me a national treasure to Trance, others say I’m one of the few thats keeping the original spirit and ethos of Trance alive today, unfortunately there are very few of us around today. Whilst the Trance that I know will always have a big place in my heart, its challenging translating this to the next generation that haven’t experienced the roots of Trance and that have had a completely different education process splitting the genre in half, two completely different scenes yet connected by name. I’m currently seeing history repeat itself but this time within the Techno world, a lot of confusion happening over there right now and brings back memories of my personal journey that was very challenging.
Hypnotic, The JOOF Sound are the tags that you have given me, they seem to play safe, importantly listening back to this mix, my sound is still there, and can see hows its evolved all these years later, but with a fresh take. I’m proud to be musically honest with you keeping my integrity fully in tact. I’m also proud of my other colleagues around me that share the same passion and that have been through the same challenges, yet are still here fighting for what they believe in and I raise a glass to them.
Thank you for your passionate support and look forward to many more years sharing my love of music with you. Thank you 😀
Here’s this mix for you to enjoy again:
